Rules
Scoring * NOTE HIGH SOFT SCORES! *
Army composition will be done by an independent judging panel that will rate lists anonymously to prevent player bias. Please note this is a change from the 2008 army composition rules, but is similar to what was done the last couple of years.
Game Play (90 Victory Points Maximum)
This is straight wins and losses. Strategy and tactics matter here and a bit of luck with the dice rolls. You will get 15 points for a win, 10 points for a tie and 5 points for a loss, with a 3 point scenario bonus for each game.
Sportsmanship (20 Victory Points Maximum)
Sportsmanship is a measure of your character and style of play. For every 1st favourite opponent you get at the end of the tournament you get 4 points towards your sportsmanship, every 2nd favourite opponent vote you get 2 points, and every 3rd vote is 1 point. If you get 1st favorite from all your opponents, that's 4x5games = 20 points. *NOTE* This is a divergence from previous year's check box system, the values of sportsmanship was greatly reduced to attempt to not have last place players able to leapfrog the whole field and win it all due to getting quite a few favourite opponent votes.
Painting and Conversions (40 Victory Points Maximum)
Painting judging will be done by an independent judge, it will be a check box system that will be fully disclosed here on a later date. It is designed with quite a few extras so that if you're putting extra effort in your painting it should not be hard to get maximum score, any best painted votes will be added to your paint score only for determining the best painted army.
Army Selection (20 Victory Points Maximum)
Lists must be received 2 weeks prior to the event (July 1, 2012) to wcpgt12@wcp-vancouver.com so that they can submit them to a panel of judges so they can rate your list into one of 3 categories: Soft, Medium, Hard.
The category is based of an experienced group of player's experiences with lists similar. These will be used as seeding wins (ie wins that don't count for your final score, but will be used for matching purposes). A hard list receives 2 seeding wins, a medium list receives 1 seeding win and a soft list receives none. Matching will be Swiss matching (ie best record faces best record) using the seeding wins and their tournament record to determine match ups. This means any category should only face their own category in the first round (barring odd numbers) but in the second round a medium list with a win could play a hard list that lost because of identical records, etc.
Lists will be given a composition score based upon their relative strengths with hard lists falling in the 0-6 range, medium lists getting scores from 7-12, and soft lists getting scores from 13-20.
The judging panel has the right to refuse any list if they deem it outside of the scope of the event, in this situation the list will be given back to the player with some guidelines they can use to get it back inside the scope, if this is unacceptable, you can submit a different list altogether for rating or choose to withdraw from the event with a full refund (or if you paid cash in a store or to an organizer we can arrange a refund to you). I can tell you from previous years, we've yet to reject a list, which I feel is a good reflection of the gaming community.
Any lists received after the deadline will still be accepted and rated, (even at the day of the event) but a composition penalty of 5 points will be subtracted from your score. This will be able to take you into a negative score to discourage any hard lists waiting until the day of to try to slip in. Lists will still be rated even at the day of and that rating will be used for matching purposes.
Players that are unsure about coming, but are hoping to make it are asked to please still submit their lists by the deadline to avoid the composition penalty.
Awards
Best Overall - All four scoring categories are totaled to determine who is Best Overall. In the event of a tie, the highest combined sportsmanship wins (ie both raw score and player votes), in the event of a further tie, it is determined by the highest Best General scoring.
Best General - Game Play and Army Selection scores are added together to determine who is the Best General, in the event of a tie, the higher Army Selection wins. In the event there is still a tie, the highest combined sportsmanship wins as per Overall.
Best Sportsman - The person who received the highest Sportsmanship score is the Best Sportsman, this includes player votes.
Best Painted Army - The person who received the highest Painting and Conversions wins Best Painted Army, including Favorite Army votes. In the event there is still a tie, the highest army selection will be used as a tie-breaker.
No player can win more than one award, in the event that a player is eligible for more than one, the order above will be used to determine which award the player will receive.
At the end of the day we hope that everyone has had lots of fun.
